Artist Statement, CV and Bio
I’m Olivia Alexander, a visual artist based on the Gold Coast Queensland. My work is inspired by the sublime beauty of the oceans and coastal landscapes of Australia, so I would say that the Ocean is my muse.
I specialize in layered mixed media including gold leaf, with which I can capture the naturally formed textures, line and colour in the coastal rock formations as well as the rhythmic movement of the sea.
I’m passionate about creating art that takes the viewer to a place of serenity and renewal that one can only experience beside the ocean. To highlight and appreciate its hidden beauty, but also the need to protect its fragility.
Olivia Alexander is an internationally exhibited and awarded full-time artist known for her bold and expressive ocean and landscape paintings created in impressionistic and sometimes, semi abstract style.
She has received many international awards including pewter and bronze medal diplomas from the Paris Society of Arts, Sciences and Letters, a silver medal diploma from the French International Academy of Merit, the Art Critics Award and the Rome Imperial International award from Italy.
She was a finalist in the international Brisbane Art Prize, 2015 and the New York International Art Contest at Gateway Art Centre, NY in 2016.
Her artworks are owned by private collectors in many countries and she has exhibited or is represented by galleries and curators in cities such as Paris, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Rome, Bologna, Sydney, India and Singapore, to name a few.
She is inspired by artists such as JMW Turner, Kandinsky, the French Impressionists as well as the Expressionist movement, but she has develop a style that is uniquely her own.
Olivia Alexander has written articles for both online and print art magazines and enjoys creative writing particularly in relation to the stories within her artworks
Olivia works from her Gold Coast home art studio in Queensland and visits are welcome by appointment.
