Carried on the Emerald Tide
‘Carried by the Emerald Tide’
As I wait at the water’s edge, the ocean rushes in, gathering me up and carrying me effortlessly.
As it draws back towards the sea, I am carried — easy, floating, lifted.
I rest upon the crest of this emerald-green wave as sunlight bounces across its surface, scattering shafts of diamond-like shards.
Still the wave ebbs and flows, gently carrying me. I melt into it, moving to its rhythm, becoming part of its jewel-like beauty.
As the water returns towards the shore, it gently settles me back onto the soft golden grains of sand.
White, lacy foam swirls and dances around me before slipping quietly back to the sea.
And all I feel is peace.
The peace of letting go.
The peace of being held.
The peace of knowing I am being carried.

This is a mixed media painting on stretched canvas, 153x60cm. It has rich colours of turquoise, blues and ocean green infused with ground pigments of ochre with a hint of gold mica.
I loved painting this piece, it brought me a lot of joy!
I spent time just sitting with it, slowly adding the layers and building up the colour. It came out of the poem I wrote above. Resting on afternoon I pictured myself picked up by a wave and carried.
How would it feel to be at one with the sea?
