Art Journeys, the Isle of Capri, Italy!

Mysterious lagoons in Italy

On one of my trips to Italy, I visited Naples and the Island of Capri. My memories are vivid!

The giant, bright yellow lemons on the trees growing in the rich, volcanic soil, not just in the gardens of Capri but the hillsides around Naples too. Perfect for that delicious lemon, ‘knock your socks off’ liqueur, Limoncello!

And the ‘bare knuckle’ ride as we hurtled down winding narrow roads in a mini bus, while at the same time, the driver is busy texting on his phone. I won’t forget that! But, the most vivid memory is a trip around the island in a speed boat.

I can still remember the feel of the sea spray in my face and hair, I can see the beautiful turquoise waters, and hear the laughter of my fellow passengers as we were drenched with sea water!

This exhilarating ride was interspersed with glimpses into the rock caves and lagoons.

One lagoon was particularly spellbinding.

Crystal clear waters

The water was crystal clear but with a turquoise glow, the light reflected off the water on to the cave roof above, setting shimmers of silver dancing across the rough textures.

Marine creatures of all types darted through the water, tantalizing us with glimpses of mauve and silver reflected upon their opalescent scales.

THE LAGOON 1-3 series:

Taking the memories of the images, colours and even the reflection of light on the water, I chose my colours and textures inspired from this.

Original, 76x76cm acrylics, inks on canvas. Areas of iridescent colour, beautiful bright ocean blues and teals with implied textural areas. It’s ready to hang, one of three in a series

The Lagoon 2 is also available as a Fine Art Reproduction in several sizes up to 1.4 metres.
